The Author of “Deadman Walking” Keynotes Cities for Life

Sister Helen Prejean, author of “Deadman Walking,” is the keynote speaker for Cities for Life this year on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jacksonville, beginning at 7 p.m. Sponsored by the diocese’s Prison Ministry, the annual gathering addresses why the death penalty should be abolished in Florida and worldwide. Also speaking is Dr. Joseph Thornton, a psychiatrist who has worked with death row inmates since the 1990s, and Herman Lindsey, wrongfully convicted of a robbery and murder. He was the 23rd person from Florida’s Deth Row to be exonerated.
